Jason Chang was born in Taiwan. He immigrated to the United States in 1982. He has studied Art at the School of Visual Arts, College of New Rochelle, and earned his Masters Degree in Studio Art. Throughout his career hi has been teaching at the National Academy of Fine Arts and the College of New Rochelle. He is currently teaching classes at the Pastel Society of America School of Pastel at Pastel/National Arts Club, Golden Eagle Institute, and conduct workshops both nationwide and in Asia. He has been elected as a Master Pastelist of Pastel Society of America.
Jason is the President of North America Pastel Artist Association since 1997. He also established Jason Chang Pastel Art Gallery in Queens, NY in 2006. He has been a juror for countless art exhibitions, including exhibitions for Audubon Artists, Pastel Society of America, Huntington Arts Council, Allied Artists of America, Art Du Pastel En France, Village Art Club and Queens Council on the Arts. His recent involvement include: organizer and Jury of Awards for 1st and 2nd. Jason is a member of major art organizations such as Allied Artists of America, American Arts Professional League, Pastel Society of America, Audubon Artists and etc. He has won many awards and honors from various exhibitions and organizations. He was the top award winner at the American Artists Professional League and many others. Although Jason is very active in the Pastel field and has entered group shows nationally and internationally more than a hundred times, yet he has still found time to set up and arrange a “Contemporary Masters Pastelists Exhibition” for the Pastel Society of America in both Taiwan and China. He has 14 solo exhibitions in US and in Asia. Because of Jason’s activities and reputation, both Taiwan and China have extended invitations to the Pastel Society of America. His artwork has been published in many art periodicals, including International Pastel Magazine, Pastel Society of America of the Butler Institute of American Art, Il Pastello Conteporaneo in Europe (Europastello). In additions, he is listed in Encyclopedia of American Painters, Sculptors and Engravers of the U. S., Who’s Who in American Art, Who’s who in the World, The Pastel Journal, World Journal Weekly and L’Art du Pastel.
Jason is especially known for his wonderful Still Life paintings. His pastels have a dramatic interplay between shadow and light. Color harmony and composition are also very important in his creative expression. His subject matter is diverse and includes landscape, figurative portraiture, and still life. His artwork has been bought by private collectors and international museums. He is also the author of Amazing Delights in Pastel 2008 and The Art of Pastel – Techniques and Artwork 2009.
