Douglas Portrait

“Douglas Portrait”  Received an award of American Artists Professional League 2014 Open Juried   Exhibition.

Step 1

 I used a self made sanded board that was mixed with marble dust, gesso and acrylic to apply on heavy paper or museum rag board. I chose dark grey board this time. First,I used a light grey pastel pencil to draw the outline of his head.

(1) :這次我選用自製的画纸(即纸板塗上大理石粉、塑膠漆、壓克力色料所混合)深灰色調為的底色。          先以浅灰色之粉彩鉛筆打稿。

Step 2  

I used semi-hard square NU-pastel and started covering the shadow and the light on the face.

 (2) :以色塊來强調臉部的光、影膚色。

Step 3

Continue to color the face, making it as realistic as possible at this step. And start coloring the           background and white hat in big blocks. 

(3) :臉部的五官略予修飾, 白帽和背景開始上色。

Step 4

 
Use cool colors as the foundation that is the opposite of warm colored skin tone to create contrast. Doing so will make the headshot stands out more.
 
    (4) :在這步驟已関注到瞼部光影、層次的表現, 背景試着有深淺的變化。


Step 5

 The final step is to adjust the value and fix-up details on various parts of the painting as  necessary.  Carefully study model’s facial expression on the painting, ask yourself if you still have the same instinct when you initially started the painting. If your outcome is the same as your expectation then you have achieved your goal. 

(5) :最後的步驟, 就是要調整明暗, 和修飾都份细部。詳看画中模特兒的神情, 是否和作画當初的感覺 一致, 若是已得到預期的效果, 此画就算完成了。


Summer Fruits

Summer Fruits  夏日鮮果

Step 1

                                      

 Step 1: I chose a light grey color Canson paper. Then I use Charcoal to sketch out
shadow to give forms and shapes of the objects.

(一)我選用淺色的Canson 畫紙,先以木炭勾畫出輪廓,並分出概略的明暗。

Step 2

                                      

Step 2: Next I used  Nu-Pastel to cover flat and large areas with broad hatch
                Strokes. In this step, it’s not necessary to show details yet.

(二)  使用硬性的Nu-Pastel , 先用來畫底色,大色塊的平塗,不去描繪細節。

Step 3

                                      

Step 3: Working with Nu-Pastel, I emphasized the depth of the objects and the
                  contrast between light and shadow.  Some of the bright colors presented
                   are blended with Sennelier product.

(三)  先用Nu-Pastel , 來細分光影,及強調其立體感,部分鮮艷的色彩是以.
Sennelier 粉彩產品混合使用。

Step 4

                                     

Step 4: I used soft  pastel such as Sennelier to describe the details. Especially
                    to stress the focus by brightening the object -the peeled orange.

(四) 以軟性的 Sennelier 做細部的描繪. 特別強調剝皮橘子明亮的視覺焦點。
